The history of Berquin Notaries

Berquin Notaries was established over 20 years ago.

The founder, Hans Berquin, broke new ground by forming the first integrated notarial partnership on 1 March 1991 together with notary Denis Deckers and notary Léon Verbruggen.

There are now 6 partners and over 60 members of staff.

Key dates

  • 1968: notary Hans Berquin (photo) starts with 3 employees from an office on Koningsstraat.
  • 1991: the partnership is established.
  • 1994: notary Léon Verbruggen is succeeded by notary Carl Ockerman.
  • 1995: notary Eric Spruyt joins the partnership.
  • 1999: notary Hans Berquin is succeeded by notary Vincent Berquin.
  • 1999: the partnership expands with the arrival of notary Benedikt van der Vorst.
  • 1999: the current office building at Lloyd Georgelaan 11 in Brussels is moved into.
  • 2003: notary Daisy Dekegel joins the partnership.
  • 2006: notary Peter Van Melkebeke joins as a partner.
  • 2007: notary Benedikt van der Vorst is succeeded by notary Peter Van Melkebeke.
  • 2011: notary Alexis Lemmerling joins as a partner.
  • 2011: notary Marie-Pierre Géradin joins as a partner.
  • 2013: notary Tim Carnewal joins as a partner.
  • 2013: notary Denis Deckers is succeeded by notary Marie-Pierre Géradin
  • 2013: notary Vincent Berquin is succeeded by notary Alexis Lemmerling
  • 2019: notary Carl Ockerman is succeeded by notary Tim Carnewal
  • 2021: notaris Eric Spruyt is succeeded by notary Frederic Helsen
  • 2022: notary Daisy Dekegel is succeeded by notary Yorik Desmyttere
